Kenco Millicano
Whole Bean Whole Flavour

This was a super fun and exciting project run by Kenco, JDE. In this project, Peri worked with the talented Elvis team, and worked with the 3D and senior motion designer to create a social campaign for Kenco Millicano in multiple format: 16x9, 9x16, 1x1. The biggest challenge is to create the coffee bean from scratch in CGI from 3D modelling the coffee beans to dynamic simulation, Voronoi fracturing, texturing and lighting.

The Evolution
of Coffee Bean

The original idea in this project is to simulate the 3D coffee bean comes together, and transit to the beans that is designed on the coffee bean can product itself. To achieve that, we require a similar looking coffee bean that looks like the beans from the Kenco Product. However we couldn't find any related coffee bean models, so we ended up sculpting the shape of the coffee bean in order to match the coffee bean from the Kenco product.

My Learnings

I have learned so much from this project while working with the 3D senior motion designer. CGI is a different world. There are lots to consider about, lots of testing, lots of failing until success. The hardest part was simulating the beans with voronoi fractures. It requires an accurate calculation with the matter of physics - such as Gravity, distance and the amount of fractures - they all linked together. A mis-calculation resulting failures of the dynamic simulation. Also a lot of testing with bullet time, lighting and texturing.

DOOH

In this campaign, we have also delivered a DOOH to display at public train / bus station around London. For the DOOH, we created a separate version only with 2D animation with subtle motion. In which, I have animated the sun rise in the background, slowly reviewing the product and the beans.
